Rash Decisions is a gamified learning app that teaches dermatological content through an interactive quiz. The player has to analyse virtual patients and assess photographic imagery of dermatological conditions to answer the quiz questions and is offered contextual feedback on their answers.
We were approached to develop a digital solution to assist in the teaching of dermatology course content to medical students. Not only did this solution have to be engaging for the end users (the students) – it also needed to be user-friendly for the content creators (the clinicians), who often have had very limited exposure to CMS web applications.
We combined our expertise in games and mobile technology with the client’s extensive dermatological knowledge to set of applications that were easy to use and easy to extend.
Over the course of development we:
- Produced a custom CMS that clinicians could use to create new patients, questions, and images.
- Implemented an architecture to effectively manage a large library of Ultra HD photos.
- Created a streamlined process for capturing essential data points required by our client for research analysis.
- Developed a simple content mastery system that ensured players were receiving fresh content, and creatively reusing existing content.
